After taking in a movie matinee at Toronto's "Bloor Cinema" (now the "Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema") one beautifully sunny day in April of 2000, I called my brother:
"I just saw the best f*cking movie ever made!"
"What did you see?"
Yes, what did I see?
A clue, although it would function more as trivia since it wouldn't mean a lot to the reader: I first saw it when I was a kid living in (West) Germany. The screening took place at CFB Baden-Soellingen's "Astra" theatre, a few years after the flick in question was first released. My Grade-3 schoolmates and I enjoyed our day at the movies. (From a seat behind me: "He won't shoot him.") Little did I know my rating would fly sky-high years later, and involve a modicum of essential profanity.

Star Wars
I first saw Star Wars on Friday, July 8, 1977. This then teen enjoyed it, but it hardly elicited a "best ____ movie ever made". Actually, I saw it only once the first time around. I will let a few answers come in before I reveal the title of picture in question. Thanks for the guess!
The Ted Rogers Cinema -- really? Doesn't that guy own half a state already?
No kidding. And it's "SkyDome", not "Rogers Centre".
So many possibilities! My first thought was "Midnight Cowboy." 8^D
However, on reflection, I'm going to go with: "Where Eagle Dare."
So many possibilities is right! "Midnight Cowboy" I saw at the same cinema in the early '90s. "Where Eagles Dare" is saw on the telly in the 1970s. Thanks for the guesses!
You got me, Simon. I'm stumped. My only guess would have been EASY RIDER (because of the "He won't shoot him" comment, but I don't think that's generally seen as a favourite of third-graders !
This flick was released a few years earlier. I love "Easy Rider". Thanks, JD! Yeah, a Grade-3 class seeing "Easy Rider" would be pretty funny. "Hi, class.! As a treat we're going to see a movie. Aren't you excited?"
