Three Big Big Bad Bad Days for Canada's CPC Party

October 19, 2015 (the dispatched: Stephen Harper)
October 21, 2019 (the dispatched: Andrew Scheer)
October 20, 2021 (the dispatched: Erin O'Toole)

The Conservative Party of Canada and its brethren have enjoyed three consecutive losses; losses made more potent when one considers that the Liberal Party of Canada was considered to be vulnerable in the federal elections of 2019 and 2021. The final tally wrote a minority, albeit a healthy minority, in both cases.

What gives? Well, for starters, the CPC giveth away and the LPC taketh away.

Much has been made in some quarters about the fact, and it is an incontrovertible fact, that the Conservatives won more votes.

I make much of the fact, and it is a dirty little fact, that Pierre Trudeau and the Liberals won many many more votes in total than did Joe Clark and his Progressive Conservatives in the 1979 federal election.

Liberals: 4,595,319
Progressive Conservatives: 4,111,606

Guess who became Prime Minister of Canada....

If there were a Doomsday clock for Canadian Federal politics and the National media, it would have been sitting at 'two minutes to midnight' for the last year or so. Sure; the Cons are digging themselves an ever deepening hole as fast as their Big Oil-powered excavators can shovel. However, the Greens leadership also just immolated itself in protest of... racism? Or was it bullying? Maybe entitlement? Victimization? ...something. Of course, the apparently right-wing sympathetic media (Hello Evan) are gleefully pumping gasoline on that one; with a fire hose. Never mind they almost, to an outlet, made the National Day of T&R about Justin; not the folks it was supposed to be about. And NDP DJ Jazzy Singh there sounds more and more like a used car salesman in every press release...

That roundup is stated beautifully.
Thanks!

I see there are calls for a leadership review of O'Toole. He'll be hard to replace. I'm not sure even the Cons can scrape that hard...

Is it possible that the CPC is a spent force?... Certainly in "leadership".
How does one guide a directionless party?....
