International Cat Day and Mr Spock on Cats

To wind up my feelings on this International Cat Day and the domestic cat, I will defer to a conversation between two characters from one of my favourite television shows....

KIRK: What do you make of the cat, Mister Spock?

SPOCK: Quite a lovely animal, Captain. I find myself strangely drawn to it.

The episode is "Assignment: Earth".

It was actually produced as a "backdoor" pilot. NBC did not pick it up as a series.

By the way, actress Teri Garr credits her quite-substantial guest role in this episode for really launching her career. The day after the original broadcast of "Assignment" she visited a popular LA jean store; a producer saw her, approached and said: "You were great in Star Trek last night." (Ms Garr's agent's telephone started ringing off the hook.)

Trivia: There were three cats playing "Isis". The handler would throw in the one that would best serve a given scene's kitty requirement. One of the cats took a shine to guest star Robert Lansing. Its affections allowed it to roam free in the studio. It is that cat that can be seen in the many publicity photos with Lansing.

Now I already like Robert Lansing. If a cat thinks you're cool...
