Years ago I was speaking on the telephone with a British friend of mine and we eventually touched on my... 'personality' (temperament).
Me: "Now you know why I'm the way I am, Paul. I'm half British, half French, with a shot of Irish."
Paul: "Yeah! And they hate each other!"
I could only laugh. I never knew Paul to have such impeccable timing and wit. His response was genuinely funny. And brutally honest.

The original version of this piece featured the word "temper". After a certain piece of feedback, I changed it to "temperament" since it is more accurate and less misleading. "Temper" made it sound as though I'm always flying off the handle. (Don't forget: I'm half British, half French, with a shot of Irish.)
Also, I changed "English" to "British", the word I would have used during the telephone conversation. At key times, Paul would say: "Don't forget he's a Brit."
I don't like changing posts once they're up, but here it makes sense and doesn't change the integrity of the post.
