Movies from the Bins

Last evening I posted a quick bit about a certain great movie title.

Now that I think about it, there may be another. Back in the mid 1980s a friend told me one day that he was happy since he had found a special title on VHS: in a discount bin was a copy of The Twilight People.

Who needs Citizen Kane when you have access to genuine cinematic masterpieces? (Welles was, at best, a flash in the pan.)

And I'll bet it was a copy from Toronto's own, good ole Interglobal. As far as I recall, they were the first budget label companies to be seen in department stores. This was back in the day when VHS pre-records were still very expensive to purchase, so by comparison, being able to buy a movie for ten or twenty bucks was a steal! (Quality be damned... our eyes weren't trained to see HD, plus we were still seeing blotchy film prints on TV... probably the same ones Interglobal used.)

However Interglobal's version of Twilight People is missing a reel. Get the VCI DVD instead. Sometimes nostalgia ain't what it's cracked up to be.

Respectfully yours,
The G Man

That story is a day in 1986 - 1988. If I remember correctly that "bin" was in Woolworths. (It was a department store, if not that one in particular.)

Thanks for the notes!
