Elmer Bernstein on Jerry Goldsmith

"He's the composer I would pick if I were a film's producer."

Mr Bernstein said this in an interview in the 1980s. (Goldsmith died in 2004.)

Minutes ago the radio programme "The Jazz Lounge" played Elmer Bernstein's brilliant theme to the motion picture, Walk on the Wild Side (1962) ― this recording being the cover version arranged by Oliver Nelson, and performed by the Jimmy Smith Big Band. Great stuff.

This reminded me of a certain banked tweet of mine, now uploaded!

When I read that comment by Bernstein at the time, I realized that I too would pick Goldsmith as the composer if I were a film's producer.
